KIBAALE District Chairman, Fred Ahaibwe Ruremera, has stepped down from office, reports Joyce Namutebi.Ruremera’s resignation was contained in his June 21, 2002 letter to the Speaker of Kibaale district council.“In pursuance of S.15 (IA) (a) of the Local Government Act of 1997 as amended by the Local Governments (Amendment) Act of 13 of 2001; in keeping with the agreement with the government;In cognisance and desire to promote development, peace and harmony in the district, in appreciation that I want to attend to other issues of development both personal and public, in recognition that I will serve the district in not the distant future in any electable office, I hereby on this day, June 21, 2002, declare to step down from the position of chairperson of Kibaale district,” Ruremera said.The National Political Commissar, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, recently announced that Ruremera had decided to pursue further studies. He said President Yoweri Museveni would assist Ruremera with costs of the course. Kiyonga said the decision was reached during a meeting between the President, Ruremera, ministers, Kibaale Members of Parliament and the chairman of the Mubende-Banyoro Committee, Joseph Kazairwe.Ruremera said in the meantime, it was hoped that all the provisions in the communiqués of April 17, 2002 and June 8, 2002 would be honoured by all parties, the local and central governments.Ends
