By Caleb BahikahoGOVERNMENT has raised funding for Nyakibaale hospital in Rukungiri district from sh233m to sh310m in the next financial year, in a bid to help it cope with increasing patients. This was revealed by the health minister Brig. Jim Muhwezi at the passing out of 60 nurses trained by Karoli Lwanga hospital school of nursing and midwifery over the weekend.Muhwezi said since over 100,000 people died of malaria each year and the majority could not afford the medical bills, the government had decided to provide free services.“Most of the poor people cannot afford cost sharing. We are going to provide free services but we will operate the private wings for those who can afford,” Muhwezi said.He emphasised the need for training nurses comprehensively so that they could be able to offer their services abroad.“Nursing is a very important profession. We should train more so that they can go abroad and repatriate profits for us,” Muhwezi said.Nyakibaale Hospital medical superintendent Dr. Rutahingwa Kasse decried the poor working conditions of medical personnel.
