NYABUSHOZI county in Mbarara district has been hit by an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, seriously disrupting livestock business, reports Allan Turyaguma.Veterinary officials have consequently closed all the livestock markets in Sanga and Kikatsi sub-counties in Nyabushozi and imposed general quarantine restrictions in the area.“Livestock markets of Sanga, Kibuuza, and Karengo are closed with immediate effect. No livestock or by-products should be brought to these markets,” a statement issued on Tuesday by the district veterinary officer, Dr. John Barigye, said.Barigye said the district did not have any vaccine to prevent the disease and that efforts were being made to acquire some.
