By William MuwongeUGANDA Olympic Committee (UOC) secretary Gabriel Oloka yesterday described as scandalous utterances by fellow sports administrator Abbey Lutaya that the Commonwealth Games team comprises of tourists only. Oloka said the utterances threaten to undermine the games preparatory committee’s efforts to raise a balance of sh150m to send the squad. Lutaya, the National Council of Sports (NCS) secretary, said the athletes are ill-equipped for the two-week show starting July 25 in Manchester. Lutaya insists money to be spent on the “tourists” should be used for local development programmes and the squad of 19 athletes and 14 officials should be cut.“Lutaya knows everything about the preparations and should not be complaining,” Oloka said. Oloka said Lutaya’s biggest problem arises from the appointment of his deputy John Odyek as Games general team manager. “Naturally, Lutaya would have wanted to travel as the team manager,” Oloka said.Ends
