By William Muwongeand Norman KatendeHASSAN Mubiru has scored a dozen goals more than anyone else to turn the battle for the Nile Special Super League Golden Boot into a one man race.Express’ international striker Mubiru has struck 17 goals so far and is the front runner for the sh2m award for the Nile Special Super League top marksman. Mubiru is well ahead of Simba’s Robert Kabanda and David Kiwanuka of URA Lyantonde who both have seven goals each. Prolific striker Mubiru, was top scorer last year with 27 goals having taken over the top spot from Andrew Mukasa a year before.Mubiru crossed over to Express from league champions SC Villa last year and was joined this season by Mukasa. Mukasa, at six and back on form with two goals in a 2-1 defeat of Iganga, had in 1999 struck a new league record of 45 goals. The temperamental striker erased legend Jimmy Kirunda’s record that had stood for 21 years. Kirunda, former Cranes captain and KCC player, moved from defence to the striking line to set the record in 1977. - NEWLY appointed National U-20 - Hippos skipper Joseph Kabagambe has promised better results in their Africa Youth Championship first leg clash with Egypt. The team that left yesterday, will play their Saturday game under floodlights at Alexandria .Villa’s Kabagambe replaces Alex Ndugga (Police) who was dropped. KCC’s Nathan Mutenza is his assistant.“He is disciplined and a good learner,” said assistant coach Angello Lonyesi. It was a great surprise to Kabagambe, who is set for his third international appearance. His debut was in the first leg of the qualifying round against Sudan in April.“I am surprised that I have been given such a responsibility. The camp is united and this is the only thing that we need for a win,” said the 18-year -old Kabagambe. The Standard High School student joined Villa from Horizon.Ends
