Security Agencies Want Freed Tabliqs Counselled

SECURITY agencies have enlisted the support of religious leaders to counsel the recently released Tabliq Muslims not to rejoin the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebellion.

By Grace Matsiko SECURITY agencies have enlisted the support of religious leaders to counsel the recently released Tabliq Muslims not to rejoin the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebellion.The Joint Anti-terrorism Task Force (JAT) said yesterday that seven of the15 Tabliqs released by the High Court on Friday were “apprehended” after intelligence reports indicated that while in prison, they were contacted to rejoin ADF on the day of their release.“They were not arrested as reported in the media. We apprehended them to share information we had got that some people were planning to take them back. We took them to a Sheikh for counselling and later we gave them transport,” JAT spokesman, Asuman Mugenyi, said. He was responding to reports that all the Tabliqs were re-arrested by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence immediately after they were released.Mugenyi said, “the apprehension was done by JAT, not the CMI as reported. The task force had reliable information that while in prison, they were contacted to rejoin ADF.”Ends
