A new sponsor for Uganda’s Sports Press Association’s (USPA) annual sportsman gala will be unveiled today

By James BakamaA new sponsor for Uganda’s Sports Press Association’s (USPA) annual sportsman gala will be unveiled today.The new financier will be revealed in USPA’s monthly meeting that starts at 10.00am at Tourist Hotel in Kampala. The gala is set for early September.Nile Breweries sponsored last year’s gala. They pulled out abruptly early this year forcing a delay in the gala. The brewers took over from the sports journalists long time sponsors British American Tobacco Uganda.The sports body annually recognises efforts of outstanding sportsmen.USPA chairman Geoffrey Kulubya said today’s meeting will besides naming July’s best sports personality, also start preparations for the association’s general assembly.The meeting will also start arrangements for a memorial service of deceased USPA members.The prayers August 28 will coincide with the date sports journalists New Vision’s Leo Kabunga, Kenneth Matovu, Simon Peter Ekarot and Francis Batte of The Monitor died in a car accident in Lugazi last year.The four were from a meeting in Jinja that deliberated on ways of boosting Nile Breweries’ funding for the gala.Kulubya said that also high on the agenda today will be the naming of preparatory committees for the gala.
