By Mark Namanya Egypt 2 Uganda 0UGANDA Cranes suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Egyptian Pharaohs in a build up match on Tuesday. The hosts got off to the best possible start striking in the 2nd minute through Ahmed Belal.Cranes, who did not quite recover from the early deficit, saw their challenge subside in the 36th minute when Belal struck the final goal of the match. On the brighter side, the result depicted a much better showing compared to the 1995 6-0 whitewash.Like their Ugandan counterparts, the Egyptians were using the match as a tune up for next month’s Nations Cup qualifier against Madagascar. The last Egyptian side to ever lose to a Ugandan team, club or country was National in 1991 beaten by Ugandan champions SC Villa.Cranes have also never beaten a North African team away from home. The national side has not won a build up match since it’s 1-0 victory in Kenya over Chemlil. They succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Express before settling for a 2-2 draw with Police. The team returns Friday and directly enters residential camp.Meanwhile FUFA yesterday confirmed Uganda’s build up friendly against Zambia slated for August 31.The Federation also released charges for the crucial Uganda-Ghana September 7 qualifier at Nakivubo. The entrance fee for the open stands, covered stands and pavilion will be sh6000, sh10.000 and sh30.000 respectively.Ends
