UGANDA Breweries Limited (UBL) has boosted the annual Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) sportsman of the year gala by offering drinks for the event.

TOTAL were the first to boost the annual event after they offered sh4.5m as sponsorship of the event.The gala will be held at Club Silk on September 8 and will climax with the crowning of rally man Charlie Lubega as Sportsman for the Year 2001. Other outstanding athletes in the different sports discipline and as chosen by the USPA monthly meeting, will also be crowned at the same function.USPA chairman Godfrey Kulubya said that the total amount of funds injected by UBL to the gala will be announced at the company headquarters this Thursday at 11.00pm.Meanwhile, arrangements for USPA’s ecumenical service, which will honour the fallen sports scribes are in final gear.The service is set for Lugogo Indoor Stadium on Wednesday and it will coincide with the day when the quarter of The New Vision’s Leo Kabunga, Simon Peter Ekarot, Kenneth Matovu and The Monitor’s Francis Batte perished in a road accident at Lugazi.They had travelled to Jinja to discuss sponsorship of the same gala with Nile Breweries Limited officials.Ends
