By Phillip CorryTHE region’s best karate talent comes to Uganda this weekend.Uganda will host the inaugural East and Central Africa Karate Club Championships Saturday and Sunday at Hotel Africana in Kampala. The two day regional meet has attracted 10 clubs from Nairobi and three from Mombasa. Two clubs from Tanzania, two from Rwanda and Burundi’s national team are also expected to come and show their martial arts skills.“It is a great honour to host this event for the first time,” Mahmood Asana, the Uganda Karate-do Association secretary said. “I believe that it will be a great success for us. This is an event we have been longing for so that nations from the region come together and exchange ideas,” Asana added. “The competition is going to be stiff, but I believe we have the advantage and we shall win the tournament.”The event is open to both clubs and national teams. Uganda will enter five clubs; Dragon, BMK Luzira secondary school, and Yin Yang and Busia Border clubs.The tournament will see a show of Kumite and Kata skills.Ends
