URA Issues Rules On Disabled Tax Exemption

THE Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on Friday issued guidelines under which disabled persons will be exempted from payment of import duties and Value Added Tax (VAT).

THE Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on Friday issued guidelines under which disabled persons will be exempted from payment of import duties and Value Added Tax (VAT).Geresom Musamali reports that basing on the Finance Act 2002, URA also issued guidelines on exemption of the same taxes on ambulances, prison vans and vehicles meant for carrying dead bodies (hearses).Several categories of people entering Uganda or importing goods are exempted from taxation under the guidelines. All items imported by the President for his personal use are also tax-free.URA Coommissioner-General Anebritt Aslund (pictured) said in a monthly newsletter that motor vehicles and equipment meant for disabled persons will be exempted from import duty and VAT. She said educational and science materials for disabled persons’ organisation will also be exempted from the tax.Ends
