The deputy Katikkiro, Godfrey Kaaya Kavuma, has clarified that at no time during his address to a youth workshop in Bombo in July did he mention anything connected with federal and Joseph Kony.
The New Vision of July 31, 2002 reported Kavuma as having said that Kony’s rebels were fighting because the national cake is monopolised by the central region and that federo would solve the northern insurgency.
Speaking from his office in Bulange on Thursday, Kavuma, flanked by Mengo officials who attended the function refuted the press reports.
Kavuma played a tape of his recorded address and wondered why the media has persistently portrayed him as a wicked man.
He said, “I am not as wicked as the media want to portray me. I’m not zealous and I don’t want to contest for any political post or to unseat the Katikkiro as alleged.”
In his recorded statement, Kavuma hailed the youth for their active role in the development of the kingdom and the nation.
He said Kabaka Mutebi’s reign has put the youth in the limelight.
On the federal issue, Kavuma said 97% of the people in Buganda and 67% of people in other parts of Uganda want a federal system of governance.
He said he was sure that todate, more than 100% of all Ugandans want a federal system and urged the people to continue demanding federo.
Answering a question about land, Kavuma as a Mengo minister for lands and property told the youth that Buganda Land Board (BLB) can only lease Kabaka ‘s land but it cannot sell it. He advised people on Kabaka’s land to get leases through the BLB.
We apologise for the wrong report. Ends
