UPDF second division commander Col. Poteli Kivuna has denied allegations published in a weekly Runyankole newspaper Entatsi that UPDF has massively deployed its troops on Uganda-Rwanda border.
“We have never deployed our troops at the said border and we have no intentions whatsoever to deploy our troops there,” Kivuna said.
He was addressing journalists in his office at Makanke army barracks in Mbarara on Friday.
Entatsi recently carried a lead story saying the UPDF had massively deployed heavily-armed troops in Ntungamo at the border with Rwanda.
Quoting sources, the paper said the relationship between Uganda and Rwanda had continued deteriorating despite high level meetings.
The paper also alleged that the renegade UPDF officers Lt. Cols. Mande and Kyakabale who are in Rwanda’s capital Kigali were planning an attack.
The paper did not quote any Ugandan authority.
Poteli said the paper's story was a speculation based on hearsay by war mongers who want to use the media for their own gain.
The UPDF spokesman, Maj. Bantariza, said Rwanda and Uganda are now enjoying a better relationship.
He said there was no need for the deployment of troops at the border. Ends
