THE State has discontinued legal proceedings against the marketing manager of the National Insurance Corporation, accused of embezzling over sh48m meant for the insurance of the new presidential jet.

Byarugaba Kaawa was yesterday freed by the Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate, Frank Othembi, after the prosecutor, Jackline Kyosiimire, informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had decided to drop the charges.

Kyosiimire also told the court that the DPP preferred to have only the NIC chief executive, Samwiri Sebuwufu, to face trial.
