AGARD Didi, the Minister of State for Northern Uganda Rehabilitation, yesterday swallowed his utterances and apologised to the Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, for being rude and embarrassing him.

John Kakande and Milton Olupot report that Didi recently stunned MPs on the two committees of foreign and presidential affairs and government assurances, when he told the Prime Minister in his face that he had usurped his work.

Yesterday, a dejected Didi came to the House and made a ministerial statement seeking forgiveness from the Prime Minister and pledging “to be loyal and faithful.”

Didi read to the House a letter addressed to the Prime Minister dated September 16, 2002.

The letter was copied to President Yoweri Museveni and the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Ssekandi.
It said: “Following my statement to two parliamentary committees which have since been prominently printed and aired in the mass media, this is to accept full responsibility for using the wrong procedure and wrong forum for those utterances and for the rude language that I have used against you and for being confrontational. I therefore wish to withdraw those statements.

“I submit my apologies and I beg for forgiveness and sincerely regret the anguish, sorrow and embarrassment that I have caused you, to HE the President and the Government and promise never to repeat such a mistake. I also pledge to be loyal and faithful to you.

“With your permission, I wish to take the earliest opportunity to read this statement to Parliament so as to put this unfortunate episode to a final conclusion,” Didi said.
