It will be a battle of wits and skill as Uganda’s very best dance-hall talent tussles it out this weekend at Jenina Club House, five miles on Hoima Road. The show dubbed ‘Ani Asinga’ will start at 7.00pm for sh4,000. Chameleone, Bebe Cool, Red Banton and New-Kid-On-The-Block Bobi Wine will face off in what is anticipated to be the most heady display of local talent this year. The four artists are some of the most sought-after on the local music scene. Chameleone was recently awarded the Ugandan Artist of The Year In The UK and Song Of The Year awards for 2001 at the Uganda Music Awards in the UK this year. The latter was given for his epic single Mama Mia. The song also beat all Kenyan songs to top Kenya's biggest 10 songs at the Kenya’s Music Composer's Association (MCA) at Shak's Palace in Kiambu last year. Despite the fact that he was not even Kenyan, Chameleone still made it as a nominee for the much coveted and competitive award of Singer Of The Year (SOYA), alongside John De Matthew (who eventually won) for his song Urathi Wa Ma and Mighty King Kong (whose song Cinderella was runner up). Red Banton, whose fascinating rhyme patterns have endeared him to the public won Best New Ugandan Artist In The UK at the Uganda Music Awards in UK. Bebe Cool won the Best Newcomer award in Kenya in 1999 and is popular East Africa over whereas Bobi Wine's dance floor success Kagoma has won him critical acclaim. So, let the show begin!
