THE Internal Security Organisation (ISO) top governing committee has recommended the immediate suspension of its Deputy Director in charge of socio-economic monitoring, Teddy Sseezi-Cheeye (picture below), for allegedly leaking the organisation’s secrets.

The administration and policy committee, at a two-day meeting held at the ISO headquarters in Nakasero, Kampala, recommended that Police’s Criminal investigation Department (CID) should investigate Cheeye with a view of prosecuting him, sources said.

About 100 ISO directors, heads of department, Regional Internal Security Officers (RISO), District Internal Security Officers (DISO) attended the meeting which was chaired by the ISO Director General, Brig. Henry Tumukunde. Cheeye did not attend the meeting, sources said.

In his recent newsletter Uganda Confidential, Cheeye accused Tumukunde of protecting organisations under probe over corruption, diverting ISO funds, disrespect to President Yoweri Museveni and security minister, Muruli Mukasa. Cheeye also printed in the publication correspondences from the President.
His statement followed a release by Tumukunde advising the public to resist arrests by ISO operatives, saying it was the preserve of the police to arrest.

Tumukunde said some ISO officers from the Economic Desk demand documents from government officials. He said documents should only be released to him.

“The Policy and Administration Committee resolved that Cheeye be suspended immediately, CID invited to investigate him and prosecute him for releasing intelligence information to unauthorised parties,” an ISO source said.

Another source said “the committee recommended immediate action but consultations are still going on with higher authorities.”

The source said some members demanded that Cheeye be dismissed for “the nature of the crime” and for refusing to go for training as part of ISO regulations.

Sources said days before the meeting, Cheeye was grilled over his refusal to attend an ISO course.

Former Pader RDC Charles Rwomushana is among those attending the induction course.
