THE Minister for the Presidency, Gilbert Bukenya, has hailed the Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, for wiping out factionalism and uniting Muslims in Uganda, reports Alfred Wasike.
Speaking at a mauledi to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad and the death of Buganda’s only Muslim king, Ssekabaka Nuhu Kalema in the 1800s, Bukenya said, “The Government is very happy with the current Mufti for uniting the Muslim community which had been torn by selfish interests.”
The ceremony was held at Mende, off the Kampala-Hoima road, on Sunday.
“The Government is also grateful to Muslim leaders for mobilising their people to support government programmes. We are very happy with our Muslim brothers and sisters,” the kanzu-clad Bukenya told the congregation at an old mosque, a near Kalema’s burial place.
