OVER 200 doctors will be recruited and deployed in the health sub-districts in the country, a strategy to improve health services delivery, state minister for health Mike Mukula has said.
“Due to the high demand of manpower especially trained personnel at the 214 health sub-districts in the country, the Government is to recruit over 200 to 300 doctors to manage them,” he said.
Mukula said this recently while meeting Arua district officials led by the district LC5 chairman, Richard Ferua Andama, at the resident district commissioner’s office.
Mukula briefed the officials on the health status in the country and of the district in particular.
He said the Government health strategic plan requires on average four doctors to be in hospitals and health sub-districts.
Mukula said some of those to be recruited will partly be graduates from Makerere University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology among others.
He said the specialists will cover areas of gynaecology and pediatrics.
Present were Dr. Elizabeth Madraa, programme manager, Aids Control Programme, Dr. Jacinto Amandua, commissioner for clinical services and WHO’s Josephine Namboze.
Amandua said there were 12 medical officers to be distributed in Arua Hospital, eight in Kuluva Hospital and two in Maracha Hospital.
