THE Castrol GTD Independence rally is three weeks away but its fever has already gripped Jinja with rally enthusiasts raising 700 litres of fuel for local hero Ben Koyesiga.
National Water and Sewerage Corporation (Jinja Area) and Spenold Cargo have offered Koyesiga 300 and 200 litres of fuel respectively. Gomba Fisheries and Hared Petroleum have added 100 litres of fuel each.
Nsuseni Motor Works will service the crew during the rally.
Koyesiga, who will drive a more reliable Toyota Celica ST165 which he acquired last month has been challenged to take on Kampala based drivers on his home turf.
“Last year, we were let down by our old car (Nissan PA10) but we are now in a better position to entertain our fans. My fans have more hope in me this time. I will try my best to finish the rally,” he said of the event that will be concetrated in Jinja.
The UMC organised rally will be flagged off at Sheraton Hotel Kampala on October 26 and drivers will do three sections between Kampala and Jinja.
The first leg will end with a super special at the Agricultural show-ground in Jinja.
The second leg will cover Jinja, Kamuli, Mayuge and Iganga districts.
The rally that is the last round of the 2002 National Rally Championship series is sponsored by Castrol Oils Uganda
The rally was launched yesterday at the Castrol head office in Kampala.
Charlie Lubega has already sealed the drivers title after dominating the 2002 season.
