THE Ministry of Energy has launched a sh400m rural electrification project in Kabale district.
The project was launched on Wednesday during the Independence Day celebrations at Rubaya sub-county.
The project which is funded by the Swedish government is part of President Yoweri Museveni’s pledges made in the 2001 presidential elections.
It was launched by the former minister of trade, Dr. Abel Rwendeire and the commissioner for energy, Godfrey Turyahikayo.
Katuna-Ryakarimira rural electrification project in Ndorwa West constituency will benefit Katuna border residents in Kabale district.
Turyahikayo said the project proposal was made by the Ndorwa West MP Steven Bamwanga after realising the need to extend power to rural areas and stimulate development.
Bamwanga urged the residents to tap the power and use it to fight poverty.
He said the power is cheap and convenient.
Bamwanga said the Rubaya SS, Rukore High School, Karujaga, Ryakarimira trading centre and Kamuganguzi sub-dispensary were among those to benefit from the project.Ends
