A phone call is normally not known for raising adrenaline levels.
Not for SC Villa star Hakim Magumba and his club at least.
With the transfer season around the corner, this is a tense period of anxiety and thus clubs have to keep a relentless eye on their top players — regardless of whether to use unorthodox means or not.
A phone call for club captain Magumba in the pavilion, during Villa’s 4-0 Kakungulu cup mauling of UTODA, caused a stir in the club’s heirachy.
Magumba did not feature in the match because of injury.
Villa strongmen Franco Mugabe, Umar Mandela and Andrew Kasagga Zzimwe were on hand to check their player’s phone and prove the call was not one to entice him.
The former Iganga player has not enjoyed the best of seasons in an injury ridden year but is nevertheless regarded as one of the country’s top attacking midfielders.
Villa is no stranger to set backs.
The Nile Special Super League champions have seen two of their finest players, Andrew Mukasa and Hassan Mubiru switch to arch rivals Express in the last two years.
