Muntuyera High School Kitunga in Ntungamo district has been closed after students staged what many described as one of the most violent strikes in the region in recent years.
Chaos reigned at the school on Friday evening when the students, armed with stones, bricks, hoes and clubs, destroyed property worth millions of shillings.
The school was closed on Saturday and its over 800 students sent home indefinitely. The strike which began at about 8:00pm was diffused by the police from Ntungamo who fired in the air to disperse the students.
“If we had not arrived in time, the students would have caused much havoc to the school,” said Andrew Kawesi, a police officer. Ends
