TORRENTIAL rains continue to pound the southwestern tip of the country as the much-anticipated El Nino rains spread throughout most parts of the country.
Experts predict that the heavy rains will persist, reaching flood levels in many parts of the country in the coming weeks.
Meteorological reports from Kabale indicate receipt of more than double the usual rainfall received during this period. District officials in nearby Kanungu district report continuous torrential downpours causing landslides and blocking major roads. Transport has been hampered with laments of gross financial losses by the residents.
“The southwestern region got the heaviest rains in the country, with Kabale recording the highest at 99.4mm of rain in the first 10 days of October,” principal meteorologist Abushen Majugu said.
He said El Nino is expected to persist up to the early months of next year. Ends
