Religious leaders and elders in the north have asked Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army to name its team to talk peace with the government.

Religious leaders and elders in the north have asked Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army to name its team to talk peace with the government.
The Archbishop of Gulu, John Baptist Odama, yesterday said the onus is now on Kony and his commanders to reciprocate the peace moves made by the government.
“If they want the war ended, I expect LRA to name its team that will negotiate with the government as soon as possible,†Odama said.
Last week, President Yoweri Museveni appointed the First Deputy Prime minister and minister of Internal affairs, Eriya Kategaya, to head the Government’s negotiating team. The President also spelt out the team’s tasks.
Odama, who is the chairman of religious leaders and elders peace initiative, said on October 23, Museveni wrote to him, saying the government had initiated an indirect dialogue with Kony and were exchanging letters.
“After naming their team, the LRA and the government will then agree on the venue, time and agenda of the meeting,†the bishop said.
He said he was waiting for further developments before trying to send emissaries to talk to the LRA leadership.
