GATEWAY Bus Company has expanded its bus fleet to 80, of which 10 are to operate between Uganda and Kenya.
Gateway managing director Hussein Nasir disclosed this during a press conference at his office in Bakuli Kampala last week.
“We have introduced super model MV123 to create business links with the neighbouring Kenya, this will have to facilitate the economic development of the two countries,” Nasir said.
Nasir said this bilateral co-operation had strengthened ties between the two communities which had led to development.
“Our transport fares are as low as sh18,000 from Kampala to Nairobi and sh14,000 for passengers travelling from Mbale to Nairobi,” he said. He said the new buses have the latest comfort one should expect especially on long distances.
“Due to competition in the transport sector, we have made sure that our buses plying long routes are equipped with modern gadgets like DVD players and are sound proof,” Nasir added. He said they transport cargo like textiles, cooking oil and fruits which they deliver in Nairobi.
Asked a bout the problems they were facing, he said they had reduced the problem with the customs at the border where they were required to pay $50 for foreign registered number plates.
He added that they had now shifted their offices from Bakuli to Arua Park for buses going to Nairobi, Arua, Adjumani and Paidha districts. This had improved service delivery.Ends
