A widow in Busiu sub-county, Mbale district, is seeking recognition from President Yoweri Museveni for looking after him and other guerrillas during the bush war in the 1970s.
“I used to cook food for Museveni and a group of 10 other guerrillas when they were operating in Mbale,” Grace Nerima Wenwa said on Saturday. She said Museveni was by then moving with Jack Maumbe Mukhwana.
“They would come to my house in the night and I prepare food for them,” Wenwa said.
She said at one time, Museveni’s guerrilla force entrusted her with some guns that were kept in a gunny bag.
Wenwa said Idi Amin’s soldiers later looted her home after one of the Uganda Army soldiers identified as Sgt Wamukota, confided to the Government that the house was harbouring rebels.
She said her husband was later murdered in 1984 over suspicion that he had remained supportive to Museveni who had by then launched another war. Ends/b>
