THE Malinga brothers Henry (18 points) and Eric (11 points) did most of the damage as Falcons took a 1-0 MTN Basketball League league play-off lead over champions Sky Jammers yesterday.

After a hard fought second quarter that saw the scores level on three occasions, Falcons took charge in the third, and by the time the Malinga brothers fouled out midway the final quarter, the job had been accomplished.

The second game in a three game series, is set for Wednesday at YMCA Wandegeya. The winner will take on Sadolin Power, who ejected Charging Rhino 2-0.

Falcons effectively kept lethal MVP Norman ‘Magic’ Blick (7) and Godwin Khisa (14) at bay —restricting them to just 21 points.

Falcons’ coach Ronald Kaboha was elated.“The boys played hard, they wanted a win. We are looking forward to sweeping the champions in game two if possible.”

Big talking Jammers’ captain Khisa was humbled.“Our defence was weak, we will try to work on it,” a distraught Khisa said.

Wilbrod Oketcho dominated the score-sheet with 20 points and his hard-working team-mate Isaac Afidra added 14 (including four 3-pointers) as Power ejected Rhino in straight games to storm the finals.

In the women’s series, veteran Susan Kafumbe spurred Lady Bucks with a team high 10 points as they edged out Amazon Rhino to get on course of a seventh league title.
