The Ministry of Water, Lands, and and Environment, has through the Directorate of water development, told Mbarara district water department to account for sh149m, reports Ben Mugisha.

In a two-page letter to the chief administrative officer, Hezzy Kafureka, copied to Godfrey Peterson Baguma, the district water boss, the permanent secretary, Eng. Kabanda, told Mbarara to account for the money meant for latrine construction in schools, or cut off the money the ministry has been sending to the district.

“You are reminded to account for the said money or the government will terminate the money it has been sending,” Kabanda said.

Baguma said on Tuesday each latrine at each of the 130 schools was meant to cost sh2.4m.
Schools that failed to account for the money are Kamatarisi and Kagaga II primary schools in Bukanga county, Kyenturegye in Kishari and Kanyaryeru and Kayanja primary schools in Nyabushozi, Kakoba Muslim Primary School, Bishop Stuart Demonstration School and Kateete Primary School in Mbarara municipality.
