The first phase of the Kato Aromatic Industrial Park, has been completed. It consists of five factory buildings, now ready for occupancy. The venture is being financed by Egyptian business interests.

Ismail Tamale, the managing director said last Friday, that four companies mostly in agro-processing have shown an interest.

He said that each of the buildings measures about 1008 square kilometres intended to house one factory each, but that under a special arrangement, a building can be sub-divided to cater for small industries.

“The park is already connected to the electricity grid and water supply is available and already operational. Fixed telephone lines are also already available and five kilometres of tarmac road network have already been built,” he said.

The industrial park, which is supposed to be built in three phases, has been developed on 70 acres of land owned by Kato Aromatic Uganda Limited at Lwanyonyi, Mukono district, along the Kampala-Jinja highway.

In addition to being an industrial park, it will also serve, as a free zone area where goods locally manufactured in Uganda for export will be stored before export.

Goods imported for re-export can also be stored here and so will goods imported into the country, before duties on them are paid to the Uganda Revenue Authority.

Tamale said when all the three phases are ready, the park will consist of industrial and public facilities, including a 25 kilometre road network. Some 40 factory buildings are to be set up with machinery, rented or hired out to interested parties.
