POLICE in Soroti have arrested three thugs and a pastor at Ochapa trading centre accusing them of possessing two-stick grenades, a gun and stolen merchandise.

Joseph Olaja, who is said to be a pastor at an evangelical church in Ochapa, was arrested with John Okwi, John Ekiru and Julius Olupot of Kakura village in Kyere sub-county, Soroti.

The other items recovered included 70 bullets, army uniforms and a bicycle.

The sub-machine-gun, an SMG, was recovered after it was reported that the thugs would scare residents by firing bullets in the air in the evenings.

The district Police commander, Patrick Awai, said that the thugs were arrested after a tip off from the residents. He hailed efforts of the local people in helping the Police recover guns from the thugs.

“The suspects will be taken to court or handed over to the Wembley Operatives in Kampala but we haven’t decided yet,” he said, adding that they were in custody pending investigation.
