King Oyo Nyimba (right) may soon resort to taking taxis to school and to perform his royal duties if a Kampala court bailiff enforces his threat to sell his luxurious official Cross-Country Mercedes Benz and a Mitsubishi Pajero over debts.
The commercial court ordered the attachment of the Toro kings’ cars for failure to pay $18,464 (about sh30m) to Plantek Consultants, which renovated his palace in Fort Portal last year.
Bailiff Eric Wamala obtained the order on Friday from the acting registrar of the commercial court, J.B. Ssegirinya. By press time yesterday, it was still unclear if the vehicles had been seized.
The vehicles which bear the kingdom’s coat-of-arms and are registered as “the Obukama Bwa Toro (the Kingdom of Toro)” are mainly used to transport Oyo from his palace in Muyenga across the city to school in Agha Khan primary school, Old Kampala.
Oyo failed to honour a pledge to pay the money to Plantek by the end of November.
The renovation work was funded by Libya.
