THE French government has pledged to assist the Crested Crane Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (CCHTTI) with training materials and to conduct training exchange programmes to produce highly qualified personnel for tourism promotion.
The French ambassador, Bernard Thiant, said proper training of manpower in the hotel and tourism sector was vital if Uganda was to develop its tourism industry.
Thiant was speaking at a function at which he donated textbooks and demonstration videotapes on cookery and hotel management worth sh3m to CCHTTI on Wednesday.
“As people who serve the public, your jobs are very important especially in attracting tourists because when tourists come you are the ones who receive and serve them, hence the need for training to produce highly-qualified people to promote tourism,” Thiant said.
The education attaché at the French embassy in Uganda, Jean Noel Jodeau, said Uganda had the potential of enlarging the number of tourists it hosts by having highly skilled labour in the industry.
The director of the institute, Barnabas Kabalisa, thanked the French embassy for its continued assistance to the institute from the time it was started. Ends
