UMA Tops Sh290m From Show

UGANDA Manufacturers Association (UMA), earned about sh290m from the Uganda International Trade Fair (UGITF) 2002 which took place last month at Lugogo show- grounds.

UGANDA Manufacturers Association (UMA), earned about sh290m from the Uganda International Trade Fair (UGITF) 2002 which took place last month at Lugogo show- grounds.
Hillary Obonyo, the UMA’s Executive Director told, The New Vision this was the best organised show ever, with foreign participation hitting a record 158 firms, up from 145 that were expected to take part.
He said that about 161,000 show goers were ticketed, while 40,000 didn’t pay as they were delegates, security officials, support staff and pressmen.
Obonyo said that the Uganda Revenue Authority, which set up a temporary office at the fair, charged 17% VAT on every commodity sold, which amounted to sh60m. UMA incurred operational costs of sh145m, leaving it with a net profit of about sh80m. UMA now plans to develop an adjacent 70 hectares of land.
