Cosmetics Firm Seeks Help

WISPRO Uganda Limited, makers of cosmetics, household, personal beauty and hair products have asked Government to intervene and stop the smuggling of similar products into the country.

WISPRO Uganda Limited, makers of cosmetics, household, personal beauty and hair products have asked Government to intervene and stop the smuggling of similar products into the country.
Wispro director, Nahim Wassanji said the smugglers sell at a low price and this affects their market.
“Government should come in to protect us the local manufacturers from unfair trade practices. We are the only local firm in Uganda who has a license from Amka Products International to manufacture and distribute these products in Uganda,” Wissanji said.
“We believe there are some importers who smuggled this products in the local market and are evading taxes,” Wissanji told the state minister of trade and industry Dr Richard Nduhura who was touring the factory on Monday.
Nduhura said the government is committed to protect the local manufacturers from unfair competition.
“This problem was first brought to our attention by the chairman of Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA). We have already alerted the director of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to investigate and we are defiantly going to take action if some people are found evading taxes,” Nduhura said.
The factory is located in Ntinda industrial area.

Wispro which produces a number of products including body lotions like top society, clere lotions, creams, nail vanish Body talk lotions vanish removers among others also exports some of their products to Kenya, Rwanda and DR Congo.
