SIR— I want to commend the outgoing Masaka Chief Magistrate, Margaret Tibulya, for her firm stand on defilement. The sentence she passed on defiler Ishmael Mukasa, according to the story “Man gets 54-year term†in The New Vision of November 11, is right and just.
I am yet to read or hear of a defiler getting the maximum sentence of death, though. If these beasts had not been handled with kid gloves by the judiciary, we would have seen by now a considerable reduction in this inhumanity.
