EXPRESS fans had cause to smile on Thursday after National Football League Committee (NFLC) approved Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

The fans had always called upon Express management to see that their matches are played at their kattiro “murder ground” and on Thursday, their dreams became reality.

The stadium that was banned three years back, forcing Express to host their matches at Namboole (2000) and Nakivubo (2002) was approved after meeting all the requirements as stipulated by the committee.

The requirements included a safe passage for players and match officials, a security plan, and the inner and outside perimeter fences.
“We have approved all the stadia including Mbale Municipal stadium.

We only had to shift their first match to St George stadium in Tororo because the grass was still growing but it has passed all the requirements, FUFA vice chairman Godfrey Kwizera said after the meeting.

Th approval means that eleven grounds are fit to be used in the league this season.

The grounds are Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (Villa, Police and URA FC), Nakivubo (Simba and KCC), Wankulukuku (Top TV and Express), Saza Ground (Iganga), St. George (Game Boys), Akii Bua stadium (Akol FC), Mbale Municipal Stadium (Mbale Heroes), Masaka Recreation ground (Masaka), Kakyeka Stadium (Mbarara), Kinyara (Kinyara) and Buikwe (Buikwe).
