Manyindo Nominated JSC Boss

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has nominated retired Court of Appeal Justice Seth Manyindo chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has nominated retired Court of Appeal Justice Seth Manyindo chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

He also nominated W.S. Kamya as chairperson of the Health Service Commission.
The parliamentary committee on appointments chaired by the Speaker, Edward Ssekandi, is scheduled to interview the two today.

The post of chairperson JSC fell vacant when Benjamin Odoki was appointed Chief Justice.

Manyindo, a former deputy chief justice, chose to take an early retirement before reaching the age of 75. He was replaced by Lady Justice Laetitia Mukasa Kikonyogo.

Article 146 (2) of the Constitution states that the chairperson or deputy chairperson JSC shall be persons qualified to be appointed Justices of the Supreme Court, other than the Chief Justice, the Deputy Chief Justice and the Principle Judge.

Article 146 (5) says a person is not qualified to be appointed a member of JSC unless the person is of high moral character and proven integrity.
