NAKASONGOLA district officials yesterday failed to account for over sh274m queried in the Auditor General’s (AG) report for the financial year ended June 1999.

Sh258m was queried as an shortfall in the district’s revenue performance, for which the officials failed to give a satisfactory explanation to the AG and the district Public Accounts Committee.

“Although the administration had anticipated to raise revenue from both domestic and other sources totalling sh2.6b, only sh2.4b was realised resulting in a shortfall of sh258m,” AG John Muwanga observed.

Another sh14m that was queried accrued from expenditure for which vouchers went missing at the time of the audit.

Appearing before the local government accounts committee, chief administrative officer Chrisestom Kayise said the shortfall resulted from drought, fish poisoning and poor revenue
collection.
