Without a doubt, it was the place to be on Tuesday night! Charlie ‘Mambo No 5’ Lubega did us all proud when he finally opened up his long awaited extension to Ange Noir. Well before 9:00pm, the time appointed on the invitation cards, the newly built car park behind the club was almost bursting at the seams.

Meanwhile outside the entrance, Operation Wembley operatives were in full flight as they swooped down on thieves –– two had been shot dead within the neighbourhood, the third fled to Ange Noir threatening to ruin the big day. But despite the sound of gunfire nobody cared for there was only one thing on the agenda –– Ange Mystique.

Certainly the wait was worth it. Ange Mystique was superbly done and unusually for Uganda (our builders can’t build things straight), there was no arguing with the finishing. Ange Mystique is glitzy. Mirror walls, snazzy green toilet seats, and art deco barstools.

The guest list too was impressive enough, loaded with the socialites who know how to make things happen – Chief guest, Mike Mukula, Francis Babu, Emma Katto, Sudhir Ruparelia, Bwogi Kawalya, Elvis Sekyanzi, Peter Sematimba, Aga Sekalala, Steven Kavuma, Sandor Walusimbi, Jay Tana, Juma Seiko, Oscar Khika, Hope Mukasa, MTN’s Philip Besiimere, Mark Ssali, Karitas Karisimbi, Marion Adengo, Alex Ndawula, WBS newscaster Brenda Nabiryo, Radio One’s Maria Kiwanuka, Dr. Ian Clarke, UBL’s Suzzane Collins, Dan Kidega MP, Annette Kironde –– the list goes on.

When Charlie Lubega stood up to make his speech, he was simply Charlie ––– the Charlie who is very reserved.

Incidentally, Charlie is a man who is very composed. He spoke well telling us that Ange Mystique is all to do with us and that though we have done him proud, it is we who should be proud because he did not think there would be such a large turn up.

Obsessions, Ragga Dee, Capital FM’s Juliana Kanyomozi and Chameleon provided entertainment for the evening.

They all sang well, performed well and were worthy act to have at this grand opening.

As the beers flowed, a couple standing near the bar summed up the entire evening in one sweeping statement:

“Charlie kyakoze kiyitirivu!” (Charlie what you have done is incredibly great!) Need I say more?
