THE Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has advised Karimojong LDU trainees to understand the responsibility they are to undertake in recovering illegal guns and maintaining peace in the region.
Commissioner Veronika Bichetero Eragu told the trainees recently to know that they would soon be the vital link between the Government and the communities.
She said the main duties of the LDUs would be to protect the lives and property of the people in their areas of operation.
“The other responsibility will be to help us collect those illegal guns that are being used to finish our people,” Bichetero said.
She was addressing 605 LDUs from Matheniko and Bokora Counties, who were under-going an intensive military training at the UPDF 3rd Division headquarters, Moroto.
Commissioner Joel Aliro Omara and officials from the departments of justice, prisons, directorate of public prosecutions, and the Police criminal investigations department were present.
She told the trainees to take advantage of the course to sharpen their skills for the challenges of disarming the warriors who were terrorising the region.Ends
