UNITY yesterday reigned at Express FC as the executive pushed off the long awaited polls that were due at Wankulukuku on Friday. Only Godfrey Kirumira had shown intentions to stand for re-election.
Express secretary Kavuma Kabenge, flanked by club president Bbale Mugera and board members, announced the polls’ postponement and the reconciliation of the feuding parties.
“It was necessary to reconcile the numerous parties for a smooth and unified administration. After that we found it necessary to postpone the assembly to another date which will be communicated later,†said Kabenge.
Instead, the fans will have a general meeting with the club executive on Friday.
The petitioners (mostly of the late Jolly Joe Kiwanuka’s family), who pushed for the executive to set a date for the general assembly attended the meeting.
Yesterday’s meeting was a result of earlier consultative ones initiated by club board members.
“For the first time in a long time, all Express parties are together. We have harmonised and synchronised our voices and we are now one. We shall no longer share our problems with the public,†said Mugera.
Mugera said that the Kirumira and Kiwanuka factions are going to work together for the good of the club adding that this was a beginning of new era.
“It normally takes a fool to do the same mistakes over and over again and Express is not made up of fools,†said Mugera.
And Sam Kiwanuka who had been leading the anti-Kirumira crusade looked ready to accept the peace deal. “Everything is possible. The points in our petition have been discussed and the directors have said they will be addressed.â€
Francis Buwule, one of the petitioners made his side’s feeling clear. “I fully subscribe to whatever has been said. Let us give it time.â€
