KAMPALA Central Division chairman Charles Sserunjogi has lashed out at Capt. Francis Babu, the area MP, claiming he was meddling in decisions taken by the council.

Sserunjogi said he was irked by Babu’s persistent attacks on him and his executive and telling residents at LC meetings that the division was not performing well due to his (Sserunjogi) leadership.

Babu is also state minister for housing.

“The MP is always holding meetings with residents and local council leaders. I am never informed of these meetings. Such leadership is misleading and confusing the electorate. Local Government work is our work not for MPs,” Sserunjogi said on Wednesday.

He was responding to recent remarks by Babu that KCC was doing nothing to remit 25% of the revenue collected to lower councils.

Sserunjogi advised Babu to concentrate on debating national issues in Parliament and leave the work of the divisions to the council.

“Instead of calling me for meetings and we discuss issues affecting the division, Babu has chosen to go behind my back and hold meetings to which I am never invited.”

“Recently, when I appeared before a Parliament committee, I was asked why I was close to the principal assistant town clerk. I believe Babu should have had a hand in this although he is not a member of the committee. What is the problem when the division town clerk works closely with the division chairman?” Sserunjogi asked.
