MEMBERS of parliament from Ankole (Mbarara, Ntungamo and Bushenyi) are to take part in a fundraising drive for the Mbarara University of Science and Technology. sh600m is needed for the completion of a three-storey building for the faculty of development studies. The MPs are in the next three months to each collect at least sh3m. Well done.MPs.

Such is the spirit in which MPs must work to contribute to the development of society other than each just screaming about promises they themselves are assure cannot fulfil.

In the meantime, the Kabaka Education Foundation (KEF) continues with its momentous role in the education sector. This week saw the foundation giving hope to the beneficiaries of Universal Primary Education in Luweero district.

KEF has set up the first secondary school in Kakoola, Bamunanika County. The school that will have both ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level was built using the funds under the self-help project in Buganda.

At Makerere University, the guild president, Dennis Okema, came out strongly to assure the parliamentary committee on social services that “food is not a privilege, but a right.”

Okema was decrying the state of affairs at the hill where the current menu consists of mainly posho. Apparently, the menu took its new form, following the recent budget cut across government ministries and departments.

Okema said the students were faced with hunger. Now, whether these students face hunger because the posho is not enough or because they don’t want the posho is another matter.

While at Makerere students battle with hunger, the government of Thailand has something to offer to students.

Thailand will next year offer five scholarships to Ugandans to pursue studies there. The honourary consul of Thailand to Uganda, Dr. James Mulwana, made the announcement during a dinner to commemorate the 75th anniversary of his majesty king Bhummibol Adulyadej and the national day of Thailand.

We look forward to deserving Ugandans to benefit from the programme.

Have a blessed week.
