CONGOLESE refugees who fled war in the DR Congo into Nebbi district some weeks ago are living without shelter, food and medicine, the authorities in Nebbi said on Monday.

At the weekend, the Nebbi Resident District Commissioner, Odok W’Oceng, said the 10,000 refugees “lack food, medicine and good shelter.”

Security sources in Nebbi said the UPDF had been deployed along the Uganda-Congo border in Parombo, Paidha and Zeu in Uganda and in Dei inside the Congo.

The sources said the UPDF soldiers were on standby on allegation that the Patriotic Redemption Army of renegade UPDF colonels Samson Mande and Anthony Kyakabale were planning to attack West Nile from Congo.

Recently, thousands of Congolese refugees crossed into Nebbi district following a fierce fighting between two rebel groups of Thomas Lubanga and Mbusa Nyamwisi in Mahagi in Congo.

Lubanga’s Union for Patriotic Congolese foreign minister, Prof. John Baptist Dhetchuvi, alleged there was fresh UPDF deployment in Bunia.

But UPDF army spokesman Maj. Shaban Bantariza said the UPDF troops deployment was normal.
