FEDERATION of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has directed league champions SC Villa to explain their position on league top scorer Hassan Mubiru’s saga within 48 hours.
Entebbe airport officials intercepted Mubiru on his way for professional trials in Brunei on Wednesday after a tip off from Express’ chairman Godfrey Kirumira. The arrangement was done by Downtown forex bureau, which is owned by SC Villa’s manager Tushar Ruparelia while Mubiru was dropped at the airport by SC Villa captain Hakim Magumba.
A FUFA executive meeting at Nakulabye on Saturday resolved that Villa gives them a satisfactory explanation of their involvement in the saga within 48 hours starting today. The meeting was reacting to an earlier letter written to them by Express secretary Kavuma Kabenge requesting for there action.
According to a source that attended the meeting, the officials were dismayed by the fact that Mubiru, who missed the recent CECAFA tournament in Arusha and Mwanza because of domestic problems, had been hooked to play in Brunei.
“There were ill intentions in brokering this deal. Brunei is positioned at 194 in the FIFA ranking out of the 200 members. Which type of professional football is he going to exhibit,” said the official.
Uganda is positioned at 102 in the FIFA ranking with 414 points while Brunei has only 70 points.
The official said that the move was aimed at killing the football standards in the country and also not wishing them well in their Africa Nations Cup campaign.
When contacted for comment, FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda did not deny nor confirm any development.
“I can not comment now. We discussed something but we are yet to release the details to the press. Call me tomorrow for a comment.” Ends
