“YOU are misers. Even priests....,†the outgoing South Rwenzori diocesan bishop, Zebedee Masereka, told a big Christmas day congregation at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Kasese town.
He challenged Christians to do more for the construction of a new cathedral on Kamaiba hill estimated to cost sh150m.
Masereka said about 70% of the funding for the diocesan project was from donors.
“Some of you have a lot of resources and are building houses day and night, but when it comes to giving the Church, you say your pockets are dry,†he said.
The prelate, who frequently asked the congregation to let “the light (of Jesus) shine on their dark spots, also warned against theft, lies, violence and cultural biases.
Masereka, who introduced his successor, Jackson Nzerebende, said it was his last Christmas as prelate. He said he would bid the diocese farewell in May ahead of the new bishop’s consecration in July.
