Government should start funding Uganda Martyrs’ University Nkozi, owing to its contribution to national development, the Bishop of Kasana-Luweero Diocese, Dr. Cyprian Lwanga, has said.

He said the university graduates are recognised countrywide by virtue of the solid moral and academic foundation they receive which enables them to perform efficiently at their respective places of work.

Lwanga made the remarks at a graduation party for Mary Nalunga, 23, an employee of Kasana-Luweero Diocese Development Department at the diocesan administration block in Luweero recently.

Lwanga decried corruption which he said has penetrated even the education sector. He condemned individuals who bribe university lecturers in return for fake degrees. He referred to such people as a ‘disaster’ to national development.

He said education is a ‘mission of service which should help people to have a positive approach to life.

Lwanga advised students to take their studies seriously so that they can use what they have learnt, to better themselves, their families and the country.

Lwanga, however, lashed out at people who agitate for the legalisation of abortion. He said nobody should legalise what God has declared illegal.

He said that life is the greatest gift to mankind which is why abortion must not be tolerated anywhere.

Lwanga added that abortion was murder and that nobody had the right over another’s life.

He requested the youth to have knowledge, love and reverence for God from whom they would get absolute happiness at their work.
