By Denis Ojwee in Gulu ABOUT 38 grass-thatched houses were gutted at Pabo protected camp in Kilak county, Gulu district on Saturday. A girl reportedly caused the fire outbreak while cooking. Pabo LC5 councillor Athi Odoch confirmed the incident to The New Vision. He said the unidentified girl was cooking when fire flames from the frying pan caught the grass which spread to other huts. This latest incidence brings to 93 the number of huts so far burnt in Gulu displaced camps in December alone. Odoch said he reported the matter to the office of the district disaster preparedness committee for possible relief assistance. He appealed to the political leadership at the district and national level to ensure that the camps are dismantled and the Acholi returned to their homes at the earliest opportunity. Mid December this year, 40 huts were burnt by the LRA rebels of Joseph Kony at Atiak displaced people’s camp located 40 miles on the Gulu-Juba road. Another 15 huts were burnt down in the second week of December at Alero camp in Nwoya county. Following the incident, Pabo residents have appealed to the Government to help them. Gulu district chairman Lt. Col. Walter Ochora said he was not aware of the accident. Ends
