FOUR people died on the spot and 14 were injured, some critically, when their omnibus overturned at a sharp junction on the Nyendo-Villa Maria Road.

By Dismus Buregyeya and Eddie Ssejjoba FOUR people died on the spot and 14 were injured, some critically, when their omnibus overturned at a sharp junction on the Nyendo-Villa Maria Road.The victims were in group returning from a bride give-away ceremony in Bukomansimbi in Masaka. The groom, Muhammad Kibirige, and his bride, Jane Ndibalekera, survived with injuries.The dead included the bride’s uncle, Muhammad Kimbugwe, the chief spokesman from the bride’s side, Idi Ismail Jjunju, 45, the bride’s sister, Rita Nansamba alias Maama Vivian, and the bride’s stepmother, Harriet Nabatta, all of Namasuba near Kampala.Admitted to Kitovu Hospital are Florence Nalumansi, Harriet Namuddu, Jacqueline Namatovu, M. Sanyu, Muhammad Lubega, Anthony Kaggwa, Juliet Nabukeera, Charles Mubiru, Edward Walusimbi and Muhammed Kibirango. All except Namuddu, are residents of Namasuba and Najjanankumbi.Masaka district traffic chief Deo Kweyamba said the accident took place at about 9:00pm on Sunday night.He said the omnibus number UAB 938M was speeding. Its driver disappeared after the accident. All the properties including the groom’s suitcase and food were looted by residents, who pretended to rescue the victims. They also picked money from the dead bodies.Muhammad Kibirige told The New Vision that he had just met the bride and decided to go for the official traditional introduction ceremony.He was also admitted in Kitovu hospital together with the bride after sustaining some injuries. He mourned the death of his colleagues and blamed the driver for speeding. The bodies were picked by the Police but were later given to relatives for burial.Ends
